Abdella Hamimoune

Morocco Brainstorm 1

Abdella Hamimoune (1964) is another of Morocco’s recognised plastic artists, specialising in visual art for over twenty five years. His work has a highly illustrative quality, in its chic and stylized depiction of the female form. Whilst Hamimoune’s paintings sit between the realms of visual art, illustration, and touch on familiar popular culture, his practice is undoubtedly influenced by North African traditions. One of the most distinctive elements of his work is the material he paints onto: alcantara, a suede-like material that serves as a long-lasting alternative to animal products.
